What the program covers
Four focused modules address the intersection of AI capability and legal accountability. Participants examine real tool outputs — from contract clause extraction to jurisdiction-specific regulatory flags — and develop criteria for evaluating when AI assistance is reliable and when it is not.
Module STRUCTURE
Each session runs two hours and combines presentation, case analysis, and peer discussion. No prior AI knowledge is required.
How AI language models process legal text
An honest look at what large language models actually do when given a contract or statute — including where they fail, what they hallucinate, and why output confidence scores are not reliability scores.
Contract review tools in practice
Participants work through a sample commercial agreement using three different AI-assisted review platforms. The session identifies which clause types each tool handles well and which require manual scrutiny.
Regulatory compliance and jurisdictional limits
AI tools trained on US case law behave differently when applied to Canadian regulatory contexts. This module maps those gaps and establishes a verification checklist for cross-jurisdictional work.
Professional responsibility when AI is in the loop
Bar association guidance on AI use is still developing. This session reviews existing duty-of-competence frameworks and discusses how practitioners document AI-assisted work for disclosure and audit purposes.
